FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Has Lovejoy ISD district personnel been involved with the planning and rollout of Green Team programs?
Yes! Katie Kordel is our executive sponsor and has reviewed and approved all implementation plans and district communications. In addition, each campus Principal has reviewed and approved their campus rollout plan. Each campus also has a staff member and a PTO Environmental chair on the Green Team. Haven't we tried this before? What's different this time?
We have never had a formal recycling program before and LISD mostly just recycled some paper. Lovejoy's new program has been approved and fully supported by the Superintendent, district leadership and the custodial supervisor. Green Team has also been working closely with our Trash/Recycling vendor to ensure we are recycling properly to help our program to be successful.
Why are we doing this now?
Single use items purchased just through Lovejoy cafeterias added over 1.1 million items into landfills last year. If you calculate items students brought from home plus teachers and staff lunch items, it is closer to 1.5 million items put in landfills last year - many of these items are recyclable. We want to give our students the opportunity to be better stewards of the planet and take pride in helping to make a cleaner and greener Lovejoy. We can also save the district money by reducing the amount of trash generated because we get charged for each dumpster load picked up so reducing single use items can potentially save the district thousands of dollars per year.
How do I know what can be recycled?
There are graphical signs above each recycle bin showing what can be recycled. We have single-stream recycling so all recycle items can go in the same bin. See list of trash and recycle items.
What can I do as a parent to help?
Spread the word about what the Green Team is doing. Lead by example so your students see you REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE at home. Go to Get Involved page for many ways you can support the Green Team and sign up to help roll out new programs.
