PROPOSED LEGISLATION WILL COST LOVEJOY
Our own representative, Senator Angela Paxton, authored SB 418. She has made no attempts to hide that this bill is directed at Lovejoy's tuition program and she is relentlessly pushing for this bill to pass.
If SB 418 language impacts:
-
Lovejoy will no longer be able to charge tuition for our scholars’ program, creating a loss of approximately $1.2M.
-
Lovejoy will have to consider further program cuts because of this revenue loss and our ballooning recapture payment.
-
Lovejoy’s district boundaries and the premium value of Lovejoy homes will become meaningless.
-
Lovejoy will be required to ACCEPT and FUND any and all students based on the STATE’S criteria.
-
Lovejoy’s UIL eligibility and re-classification of transfers may negatively affect Lovejoy students’ UIL opportunities
YOUR VOICE MATTERS
Above are a few suggestions for your phone call to our representatives. Bear in mind that you will likely be speaking with a staff member or a college intern who may only give you a minute to log your support or opposition for a specific bill. But, if you’re given the time, advocate for Lovejoy with your personal concerns regarding our lack of appropriate funding to support students and pay teachers.
Call today. Call again tomorrow.
